Why Hire a Certified Arborist?

Is there really a difference between an arborist and a "tree guy"?

In this industry, there are professionally certified arborists, who are trained in the science of caring for trees.  This certification involves much more than purchasing a truck and a few chain saws.  Arborists are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and understand tree biology.

Being an ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) certified arborist provides the level of experience and education in the science of tree care as well as the training to make qualified assessments of a tree's health and safety.  Arborists must pass a comprehensive examination which is developed by the nation's leading tree experts.  They must also maintain this certification through continuing education which makes arborists more likely to be up to date on the latest techniques in arboriculture.

Arborists understand the relationship between all of the variables which affect tree health and have greater expertise in assessing the hazard potential of a tree.  Also, we adhere to industry standards for pruning.  I have seen some horrendous topping cuts made by well intentioned, but poorly educated "tree guys".  These are usually the low bid contractors who, in effect, tarnish the image of our industry.

So, if you want to see the difference, talk to a tree guy, then schedule an appointment with a certified arborist.
